No magnolia walls to be seen.
For the last 16 years my home has evolved from a run down mid terrace to a vibrant family home. You won't find a single spot of magnolia, what you will find is colour, stuff, patterns, love.
I'm lucky if a room stays the same for 2 years before I have a new idea to redecorate. And when I do redecorate I don't just put another coat of paint of a similar colour on, the room completely changes.
My living room has been at least 7 different styles in 16 years. From the student lived in look; with deckchairs, posters and second hand carpets, to a more minimal black and white, to modern stripes, to beige and browns, to the full on floral that it is today.
I love that my personality is reflected in my house, I love that each room has it's own personality beyond me, and now as the kids get older their personalities are being added.
From my front door right through to the back garden
You will find colour.
You know you're at the right house when you see the fence;
It's been described as beach huts lined along the sea front and a kids playground, you can guarantee people stop and look, then smile. There's always the odd old biddy that tuts and shakes her head.
Once through the pink door, be prepared, my house is not for the faint hearted, and most definitely not to everyone's taste, but we love it. I do everything, well as much as possible, from laying laminate floors and carpets, to wallpapering, making curtains, designing bespoke furniture etc
In the living room you will find a Cath Kidston inspired wallpaper, but at The Range prices, I've mixed florals, stripes, dots, you name it, it's there...
My new 'thing' is decoupage, if it doesn't move it gets something stuck onto it, so be warned lol.
Free wallpaper samples are my favourite free way of doing up a piece of furniture.
All topped off by the amazing chandelier.
The one part everyone seems to love, even though they constantly bang their heads on it, I'm only 5ft so never have that problem.
The chaise was custom built to my design, eventually the fabric became threadbare and I have since recovered it. I've made a patchwork fitted cover for it, with matching cushions, using small off cuts of fabric.
The chair was about to be thrown in the tip until I rescued it, glued the leg back on and recovered the seat. The bookcases were originally dark wood, now painted chalk white.
The dining room/learning room has evolved as the kids got bigger, originally a hand painted border above a dado rail, now a bright colourful space to learn and eat. This is the newest room to be decorated (this week) and I am yet to hang a huge mirror on the pink wall.
With just one roll of £7.99 wallpaper this wall is transformed from turquoise painted and covered in kids made photo frames and photos (now rehomed onto the end of the huge book case).
The colours in the butterflies are just amazing, and the inspiration for the greys and pinks in the rest of the room.
Pink curtains will be added to tie in the colour scheme.
Rainbow drawers make accessing the art and craft items much easier, and behind those dark grey doors are all our board games, a huge cupboard which once was the place of the stove, this room 110 years ago being the kitchen.
On this pink wall, above our timeline we will hang the huge siver mirror. (and add the new piece of skirting board)
More decoupage, this time the dining table, vintage newspaper and wallpaper samples make for some interesting viewing. Each chair hand painted, each slightly different. And 2 fabric covered, and hand sewn patches on the backs.
The kitchen, I love my kitchen, I love cooking and baking.
An american diner inspired room, with plenty of pink (notice the recurring colour?).
I fitted most of this, with a useful bloke doing the heavy wall units and fitting the new sink (and moving it's position from near the oven, the week before xmas, cos that's how I roll).
The ceramic tiled floor was the first i'd ever done and now, 8 years later it's showing it's age and will be my next big project.
All around my house you'll find little jars (some not so little) of eco products, home made sun lotion, jars of vinegar with lemon and orange peel, powders for making dishwasher powder and wash powders.
The stairs and landing are my grown up space, people are often surprised and comment on the sophisticated wall paper. I love having photos of my family around, so what better place than the large landing wall.
My room, must be on it's fifth incarnation, now currently pink and
green. I took inspiration from a vintage shop in Devon, the wooden coving, the pelmet and the colours, all popped around in my head for ages.
When I described the pink and greens to people they were worried I was taking the colour scheme one step too far. But the result is amazing, the bespoke pelmet and radiator cover help pull the room together.
The bargain second hand pine headboard was given a new lease of life too.
The decor continues into the bathroom, where I tried to bring some vintage style back to the house, which is 110 years old. The floor tiles took months to find. I knew what I wanted, I just had to find it.
Around the bath is a home made curtain, rather than a solid bath panel, as the room is quite small this gives the feeling of more space, plus gives lots of storage room.
The wall tiles a large brick shape, larger than the popular style around lately.
And the colour scheme, deep teal with cerise pink. You'll find glass jars full of home made bath bombs, salts and soaps.
Outside, you will find an array of colourful pots, butterflies and painted decking/shed/summerhouse.
I've not included pictures of the kids bedrooms, but if you imagine pink, girly, rainbows and princess you will have my daughters room. If you mix red, rocker, skater, book worm and lego together, you will have the boys bedroom.
